We have lots of presses in our studio, its hard to resist collecting them and becoming custodians of a timeless craft, but the presses that we really give a good workout to are our Gordon Platen press the etching press and Mr Farley. The Gordon is used for our stationery and wedding invitations and its the one with a hip sound, a clank every couple of rotations, it has a foot pedal to propel it along and prints like a dream. The etching press is the one we use for printing editioned fine art prints for invited artists and Bills’ photogravures. This one we are proud to say we built ourselves and to remind us of our days on the sea we have put a ships wheel that turns the roller for printing. Mr Farley came from Wilcannia newspaper, no longer in operation and we use him for making our posters for Open Studio Day and more. It has a flat bed to print on and is terrific for letterpress and lino cut printmaking.
